May 27th to June 3rd some members of the Cornell Hockey Team, their coach and my very good friend, Mike Schafer, and five friends of the hockey team came down to build a chapel and community center in the community of Bosque Abajo. The group also visited the Portal de Belen Children's Center.

"This I believe: a hundred years from now it will not matter the sort of house I lived in, what my bank account was, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be better because I was important in the life of a child."
The El Portal de Belén Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation was established to raise funds that would provide an endowment for the support of the pre-school in Monte Plata and other similar activities throughout the Dominican Republic.
A board of directors governs the Foundation. Nearly all of the Foundation’s administrative expenses are donated by its directors, thereby enabling virtually all of the funds raised to be used directly in support of its charitable mission. Pursuant to New York State Executive Law §174-b, a copy of the Foundation’s latest annual report may be obtained, upon request, from the Foundation or from the New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau, Attn: FOIL Officer, 120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271.
